IBC YOUTH TURKEY DRIVE 2007

Last year the IBC youth decided to try to raise money to purchase turkeys which would be donated to people who are less fortunate than ourselves. We wanted to help provide a Thanksgiving Dinner to people who might not have this very special meal.

It was a last minute decision and we were more successful than we ever thought we would be. The members of IBC quickly donated enough money to purchase 16 turkeys which we donated to the Dept Of Family And Children Services, The Montezuma Soup Kitchen and to a couple of families within the community.

This year we would like to beat that record and we would like to kick off our Turkey Drive on October 1st. We will have something out which you can donate in cash and we will be accepting frozen turkeys at church. We have a couple of volunteers who have freezers to keep the birds in.

We will have more information on this coming up soon. Any donation would be greatly appreciated and if you know a family that might need our help please forward that information.

Update: 10/30/07

The Turkey Drive is going well and we will continue to run it through 11/11/07. This will give us time to purchase the turkeys and get them delivered. We have orders from 2- family and children services and from the Montezuma Soup Kitchen. We are still in hopes that we can fill their needs completely. If you have given to this worthy cause then we want to say THANKS. If you haven't made a donation yet then you still have time to help someone have a happier thanksgiving.

Update: 11/11/07

The Turkey drive ended with this mornings worship service. We do not have a total for donations yet but as soon as I do I will get it posted here. We would like to say THANKS to all of you who donated to this cause. Someone will be happy you did. I will have another update for you real soon.

Final Update 11-14-07

When you plan something that glorifies the Lord. Something which He would approve of. He makes sure the needs are met. It happens everytime and this time was no different.

When we contacted the Family and Children Services in Macon County and Schley County they told us they needed a total of 22 turkeys.

Macon County needed 12 and Schley County needed 5 Turkey Breast (for elderly) and 5 Turkeys.

When we talked to the Bread of Life Soup Kitchen in Montezuma they told us they needed to feed approx 90 - 100 people and wanted at least 10 Turkeys.

Our Turkey Drive netted $286.50 so we talked to the Harvey's Grocery Manager in Montezuma. She told us that she would supply our Turkey's at .69 cents/lb. A Great Deal!!

In the end we supplied the following..
13 Turkeys to Macon Co. Family and Children Services.
5 Turkey Breast and 9 Turkeys to Schley Co. Family and Children Services.
10 Turkeys to the Bread Of Life Soup Kitchen in Montezuma.

THE LORD IS GOOD and He made sure that these needs were met and then some.

We would like to say Thanks again to all those who donated to the event. A special Thanks to Allison at Harvey's Grocery. The turkeys have been delivered and in time to get to their recipients for Thanksgiving Dinner. Through each of you the Lord's will was done.

God Bless.
